A 4-day collaborative workshop was held in March this year to identify and put in place a comprehensive strategy and action plan for Anti-poaching in the Lower Zambezi Valley and to help establish the collaboration between the various stakeholders, which include the local wildlife authority, NGOs, the private sector and conservation partners.
The Zambezi Elephant Fund was formed specifically to address the poaching crisis in the valley and willl develop, implement and manage various objectives, not least of which include security enhancement, ranger training, provision of field equipment and other critical supplies for the rangers in the field, as well as data/information management.
Funding from John Stevens Guided Safaris Africa safari friends and African Wildlife Foundation made the workshop possible and its legacy is that it not only launched the anti-poaching collaborative and action plan, but it has also set a precedent for all future workshops of this nature.
